I am a University of Florida graduate interested in pursuing a career that furthers sustainability on a local or national level. Although my ears perk up whenever anything regarding sustainability comes up, my main interests are in renewable energy, recycling/waste management, and water conservation.

As Alachua County’s Sustainability Program Manager, Sean McLendon brings a decade of experience regarding environmental protection and resource efficiency programs to his role championing local government sustainability initiatives, energy conservation and climate protection program development. Key activities of his position include coordination with local governments, regional utilities and community partners to deploy energy conservation measures and awareness; outreach and education for county employees and citizens about the efficient use of energy and natural resources through employee councils and citizen advisory boards.
He has presented to the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) on local government energy conservation: “Beyond Lightbulbs & Hybrids: Local Government Solutions to Climate Change”. Currently, he acts as Alachua County’s staff liaison to the FAC Energy Independence Workgroup.
In 2008, his participation on a 17 month initiative with the Alachua County Energy Conservation Strategies Commission was nominated for a case study presentation at the 2009 Transforming Local Governments conference to be held in Corpus Cristi, Texas. This initiative was recently recognized by the Florida City and County Management Association for the 2009 Program Excellence Award for Community Sustainability.
He has traveled and studied extensively throughout Europe and Russia and was most recently selected as a Rotary International Group Study Exchange team member for the 2009 Netherlands exchange on community planning issues.
